SAMPLES - Previous work from your company
or samples of a 'look' you like from a magazine, brochure etc.
Our Graphic Designers can give your print project
almost any 'look' you want, but, if they don't know
what 'look' you need, valuable time can be lost barking
up the wrong tree.

SKETCH IT - If you have a specific way your
printed matter needs to be laid out, sketch it for us.
It doesn't need to be a Davinci ... just a rough idea
of what goes where. If you're not sure leave it in
the capable hands of our artists.

PREVIOUS ARTWORK - If you have logos
or layouts which another firm has created on your
behalf see if you can get them on disk.
It may save us from recreating art from scratch.

Because you paid for it in the first place most printers
are happy to put your files onto disk, however,
some may wish to charge a small fee to cover
the time spent retrieving your files from archival
and preparing them for disk.

PROOFING:

Most printers base there estimates on a project
needing one set of alterations, at the worst two sets.

On occasion we've seen artwork costs balloon
when a project keeps coming back for alterations.
This can be because of simple things like a new
person putting their 'two bob' in (or even totally
changing the brief) each time a new proof is issued.

To keep costs down try to make all alterations in
one sitting, and consult all parties who need to see
and comment on the artwork at the one time.
Alterations requested after the FIRST proof are part
of our standard service. Extensive alterations requested
after the SECOND proof might be charged as an extra
above the quoted price if the job runs over time.

If you look at most printer's price lists these days you'll find a disclaimer somewhere saying "prices do not include artwork".

This is because artwork can take thirty minutes or thirty hours to construct - it all depends on how many pages, colours, the 'look' required and what you give the Designer to work with (amongst other things).

When commissioning any Graphic Design you can keep the costs down by making sure you supply everything we need and by taking the guess work out of the project.

WHAT TO SUPPLY:

TEXT ON DISK- this saves our time and can help minimise errors when retyping, especially when text contains jargon, terms, names or figures which are unfamiliar to someone not in your industry.

IMAGES - We have an extensive stock image library, however, if your project needs specific images you are best to supply them.

You should supply either:
Photographic prints
Photographic transparencies
Digicam shots - high resolution please
Scans - quality scans only please (if in doubt ask us to check them)
Images on disk - high res please
Illustrations - up to A3 in size

Don't supply:
Magazine or book images - unless you have permission from the copyright holder and they are fairly large in size.
Cut'n'Paste web pics - usually low in resolution and copyrighted.
Negatives - prints only please

We can source specific shots from online stock libraries, but, they charge a minimum of $60 per image or $600 per themed CD (see photodisc).
